Ingredient of the Month

SHIELDrf

Just because your feet are the farthest from your face doesn’t mean they don’t need just as much attention and protection from the sun. Skin cancer on the feet is one of the most deadly places because it’s hard to spot and often goes unnoticed, so give your feet the same broad spectrum protection you give your other exposed parts.

Make it easy to remember by keeping ANTI-AGE Age Shield Hand Balm SPF 30 next to your shoes at home so you can give your feet a few swipes before putting on sandals or flip-flops. It contains SHIELDrf—Rodan + Fields®’ exclusive platform sunscreen technology—for effective and stabilized broad spectrum protection. And as an added bonus, the anhydrous (without water) formulation creates a nice barrier on your feet to minimize rubbing from new sandals and flip-flops.

Find SHIELDrf in Rodan + Fields ANTI-AGE Age Shield Hand Balm SPF 30 and other Rodan + Fields sun protection products.

Ingredients of the Month

SPF’s Heavy Hitters:  Avobenzone, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, and SHIELDrf (a Rodan + Fields® exclusive)

While everyone needs broad spectrum coverage from head to toe, when it comes to which sunscreen to choose, one size doesn’t fit all. If skin is sensitive or acne-prone, look for products that contain physical sunscreens such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These mineral-based ingredients are effective at blocking aging UVA and UVB rays, but won’t exacerbate acne or sensitive skin. They’re also great for kids’ tender skin and children and adults that experience a stinging sensation with chemical-based products.

If you don’t have sensitive skin or acne, avobenzone is our UVA and UVB blocker of choice; however, avobenzone alone can be unstable in formulations and degrade quickly when exposed to sunlight. To maximize its effectiveness, Rodan + Fields SHIELDrf technology uses free radical-fighting colorless carotenoids to stabilize avobenzone, making it more effective at providing protection when exposed to sunlight.

Find avonezone and SHIELDrf sunscreen technology in Rodan + Fields ANTI-AGE Triple Defense Treatment SPF 30, REVERSE Broad Spectrum SF 50+ Sunscreen, ANTI-AGE Age Shield Hand Balm SPF 30, and ESSENTIALS Lip Shield SPF 25. Find zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in Rodan + Fields SOOTHE Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30, UNBLEMISH Oil Control Lotion SPF 20, and ENHANCEMENTS Mineral Peptides SPF 20.

Ingredients of the Month

DHA

Derived from glycerin, DHA (which stands for dihydroxyacetone) is considered the most effective ingredient for creating a safe, temporarly tanned effect to the skin, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. DHA reacts with the keratin protein in the dead top layer (stratum corneum) of your skin to produce the color, and the reaction is similar to the browning effect seen on a cut apple. The duration of the browning look can vary depending on how quickly dead skin cells are shed but can be extended with the use of moisturizers that help regulate skin cell proliferation. But be aware that DHA and the tanned appearance of skin that it produces do not protect your skin from the sun’s rays, so be sure to wear a broad spectrum SPF sunscreen every day over your “tanned” skin.

DHA can be found in Rodan + Fields® ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan.

Dormin

When skin cells are stressed due to harsh climates or other environmental aggressors, cells go into overdrive and rush to the surface before they are fully mature. The result is increased cell pile up, creating skin that is uncomfortable, dry, flaky, tight and irritated. To de-stress your frenzied cells, we like dormins.

These plant bulb extracts, found in dormant narcissus bulbs, protect fragile flowers through harsh winters and do the same for your skin. By normalizing the lifespan of healthy cells, skin is more resilient and comfortable, and when used along with ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan, can improve the look and extend the length of your faux glow.

Dormin (as RF-Dcell) can be found in Rodan + Fields® ESSENTIALS Daily Body Moisturizer and ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan.
