Living in sunny California, sunscreen was routine for my family. One summer day a beach trip was planned, I had packed all the beach
necessities including sunscreen but didn’t bring anything for my lips.
It never crossed my mind that my lips would be craving moisture on this all day outing.Digging at the bottom of my purse, I came across a purse size vaseline tube and continued to appy through-out the day. Most of the morning was over-cast, the sun came out by mid afternoon. BEWARE over-cast days can fry you!! The next day I had the biggest fever blister on my lower lip, I even thought twice about going to work. Two days later it was even bigger and I ended up with a secondary infection in my glands under my chin and was put on Prednisone for 7 days. I was quite the site:(

Had a great picture of my husband on our 1st trip to Hawaii but could not figure out how to attach it! The picture was worth a 1000 words!! Out in the sun for just the afternoon and he was a lobster and he spent the rest of the vacation inside while the kids and I had a great time outside

Wow! I wish I just had one! My skin definitely suffered throughout highschool. Between sailing with my dad sans sunscreen and skiing at the lake I am a freckled mess!!!

I still remember the time I was a little girl and I was sunburned so severely I could hardly walk.i rememeber my sister rubbing Noxzema onto my sunburn and the cooling feeling it left. I had skin cancer removed from my shoulder about 3 years ago and I believe itsfrom all the sunburns I had growing up.

I always thought I could get a beautiful bronze tan like all of my friends….but after years of trying and burning each time…you would think that I would have realized that it was never going to happen! Everybody else could get a beautiful tan in minutes….me? I just burned. I remember time and time again..my dad cracking open aloe vera plants and rubbing that slimy stuff all over my sunburn ….along with vitamin e capsules…especially on our summer vacations in Florida. I would also get sun poisoning every time I went to Florida and welp up all over my body. Now, you would think that I would learn my lesson by this point but In highschool, we thought we would get a better tan if we slathered up in crisco!! My friends turned to a golden brown and I turned to a fried lobster. But my worst time was in college when we were out on the lake and I burned so bad that I almost went to the emergency room. I had to take pain pills and people were slathering me in aloe lotion then covering me in menthol shaving cream! I couldn’t lay down or anything….and obviously could not sleep. I was the most miserable time of my life!
Now, I am a freak about staying protected from the sun. In fact, I do not like the leather “tan” look at all! I can’t believe I tortured my skin the way I did….and now I’m paying for it with all of the wrinkles and sun damage
I thank God each day for my Rodan and Fields!

I have had many over the years but the worst was when I was in college(in the 80′s). A group of us on one February afternoon lay out on our roof of our college dorm! Music playing, shiny with baby oil and living the life! The life included the next day a visit to the doctor having second degree burns!! Ouch!!!!

When I went to Hawaii a few years ago I was so anxious to get out to the ocean and soak up the sun. I am naturally dark and had never burned before, so I didn’t think to wear sunscreen.I woke up the next morning looking like I was cooked alive!!! my forehead, nose and chest was literally raw and looked so disgusting that I was so embarrassed for the rest of my vacation.Never again will I forget to wear sunscreen!

As a child I tanned easily and hardly ever burned past the point of needing a little aloe. I would be a little red one day and tan the next. But as I got older and wiser I started to use sun block regularly. As an adult, I can honestly say that I have only had one “memorable” sun burn. The bright red, blistering, hot to touch, painful to shower, blotchy tan, and peeling skin kind of sun burn. I was on vacation in souther California taking a very lovely kayak cave tour. The weather was just right and I had put on my broad spectrum, high SPF sunblock as always. The tour only lasted 1.5 hours and I didn’t even go swimming. So what happened? Why would I have the worst blistering sun burn of my life after doing everything right? Well, apparently I failed to understand that the warning label “sun sensitivity” on one of my medications meant my exposure to the sun and not the actual medication’s exposure to the sun!

I have had many sunburns over the years but none specifically stand out. What I do remember is sunscreen first becoming popular. In order to be sure I would still get tan, I would use the lowest SPF as possible. Also, I have gotten so sunburned that my skin would sound like a thin piece of paper being torn, when my skin pealed. Gross!! So glad for having better products and skin care knowledge to protect my skin and my families skin. Good skin care isn’t just about your skin….it’s about your overall health and well-being too.

My worst sunburn was in the late 1960′s while My husband and I were stationed in Texas. We borrowed a friends boat to go fishing for white bass. The fish were running and I was frying. We were on the lake with no shade whatsoever for 10 hours. I figured those fish cost me about $300 a pound for time spent in the hospital and lost wages. I still can remember that one. Never again have I exposed myself to that much sun without protection.

I remember my worst sunburn ever like it was yesterday. It was the summer of 1981 at Lake Martin, Alabama. I played all day in the water, boating, skiing and having a blast. I can still remember my friends mother urging me to put sunscreen on or even yet a shirt. Oh no, I’m fine!!! That night reality set in. I was a French fry. The worst part was the weeping. No, not tears, but my SKIN. I think three layers of skin peeled off and just wept. I have the large freckles and horrible brown spots on my shoulders and back as a constant reminder. No lie, just yesterday my 4 year old daughter and I were swimming in our pool and she asked ” mommy why do you have soooo many freckles on your arms?”. My reply ” let’s put some more sunscreen on”.

I live in FL. A friend of mine owns several hundreds of acres in the country which also has several very private lakes. I got the bright idea to lay out in my birthday suit one day. I passed the time reading and doing some paperwork for my job, etc. The time passed by quickly. I noticed a small private plane that kept going over me – so I decided it was time to pack up. Wish I had done that earlier. Needless to say I was in some serious pain. It hurt to shower, wear panties or a bra, lay down, sit down…even my hair hurt due to the scalp burn. That was in my late 20′s or early 30′s. I will never do that again!

Oh my goodness.. when I was about 13 or 14… I was at my friends house and her sister had a sun lamp…. I thought … I will let the sun lamp give a beautiful tan… After sitting under that darn thing for about 15 minutes… I was fried… So much so that I got sun poisoning and was throwing up like crazy! It was awful! My face peeled and I looked horrible for like 2 weeks.. which back in the day seemed like a year. I never ever ever used a Sun lamp again…

My worst burn was when I was 19, I had been at my grandmothers appt and wanted to go out to the pool and swim and get some sun. Well that day it was kind of cloudy, so me and a couple of friends decided we would go out and lay out and if the clouds went away and it warmed up we would swim. We went out at noon and stayed out until 3pm, the clouds stayed the whole time and it was too cool to get into the pool! We just layed there sunbathing in our swimsuits for the 3 hours. I had gone home, everything was fine. The next day was Saturday and it was my bestfriends Graduation from Highschool, I woke up and I looked like a lobster, especially on top of my chest and had gotten so sunburnt that I couldn’t put any clothes on without it hurting. So I had to proceed to get dressed for the festivities that day, and I had to end up wearing my bathing suit I had on when I got burnt as my undergarments under my dress, cause everything hurt so bad! I felt so silly, but that was the only way I was gonna make it to her graduation! It was a good thing I had decided to wear a summery thin dress to it, or I would’ve been more miserable! Never again did I swim or sunbathe on a cloudy day!

Yes, I am a redhead. Yes I have fair skin. Yes, I have freckles. Yes, all my friends growing up here in southern california had blond hair, blue eyes and tan skin. Yes, I acted as if I did too. Hey, I was 16. Did I ask for red hair, freckles and fair skin? I think not. So, why could I not act like I had blond hair, blue eyes and tan skin? No reason, or so my 16 year old self believed! So, off we all went to Newport Beach, 32nd street, to seek waves, the sun and . . . the guys! What better way to attract a male then band o soleil? Yes, “tanning” lotion! Spf, ZERO! Yes, I lathered it on. Yes, I spent hours frolicking in the waves with my girlfriends, flirting with the surfers and laughing!
Until . . . I got home. Until, I showered. Until, the red head, tan, brown eyed surfer girl who stepped in to the shower, got out of the shower a red head, freckled, BEYOND RED, AND BEYOND SUNBURNED AND BEYOND PAINED, girl. My body was scorched! I could not move my limbs, I was nauseous. My face, my legs, my tummy, my arms, my eyes . . . beyond red and beyond swollen. I spent the next few days just trying to breath. Lying in bed was too painful, sitting was too painful, standing was too painful. Then, the pain receded, and the blisters appeared. Next, the pealing of dead skin. Was it worth it? OH MY, NOOOOOOOO!
This was the worst. There were still many other sun burns.
Years later, I am fighting skin cancers. Basal cell, fortunately, but on my legs, arms and face.
My daughters know the sun is not our friend. Most teens fear coming home drunk. Mine fear coming home sunburned. I have done my job as a mom well!
Thank you Rodan and Fields for providing education on the true effects and dangers of the sun and the products to fight the evils off!

While in college, I went on a trip to Florida. I bought a moisturizer with SPF earlier that year and thought it would be sufficient to use on my face and used sunscreen on the rest of my body while out at the beach. I fell asleep on the lounge chair and woke up later feeling a little burnt. As the night continued, my forhead felt swollen but my friends and family reassured me I looked fine. The next morning my forehead and brow were extremely swollen and I was unrecognizable. I looked like a lion! A tapering prednisone prescription and stronger SPF suncreen later, I ended up spent the rest of the trip out of the sun. What a nightmare!

When on vacation in Flordia many years ago, we were at the beach and I applied sunscreen to everything but the top of my feet. It was so painful the next day to put on my shoes to go to Disney World. Haven’t forgotten ever since!!

We were fortunate enough to have a pool for most of our adolescent years. My big sis and I turned into fish for three months out of the year and practically lived in that pool. We’d often replay that horrid scene of the poor girl getting taken under from the movie Jaws and take the Nestea plunge from the pool ladder. We’d also take advantage of those teetering inflatable lounge things to get our summer color on. We’d bake in the sun and easily doze until someone got careless with a splash which would bring instantaneous shock to our baking skin. (Picture ice cubes hitting a hot frying pan.) One day, I happened to doze with no splash interruptions, which was quite unfortunate because I got so burned that blisters formed just under my bikini top. I spent several days holding frozen bags of veggies to my mid-section and soon discovered that my acrobat lessons were out for awhile. I leaned that the hard way when I tried a back bend and it felt like someone was giving me the worst Indian burn ever. NOT a good summer!

One of my worst sunburns happened when my friend and I drove from Miami to Key West in a convertible with the top down. We were so excited to be on vacation sunscreen did not register in our brains. After a couple of hours with the blazing hot sun directly overhead, the top of my thighs were bright crimson as was my right arm – I was the passenger. What a way to begin a vacation.

Does tanning with baby oil and a reflector count as a story to be told…Bar Beach, Jones Beach, Manorhaven Beach. I left my sunglasses on one of them!! Today-wide brimmed hats sunglasses and sunscreen-I even called it suntan lotion back then.

My worst sun burn was around 18years old a new tanning place opened and had amazing deals…. Or so I thought. I had never really burned before but this did it brand new bed & bulbs the owner had me go the full 30 minutes. My doctor thought for sure I had 2nd degree almost 3rd he was amazed I had no blisters I could not move or touch anything sit stand lay it hurt so bad had to get antibiotics and pain meds to control or try to control discomfort.
I in February got two spots of skin cancer. I did not know that you are more likely to get skin cancer from tanning beds before the sun. I no longer can tan in tanning beds and am careful about sun exposure that’s one reason I fell in love with Rodan + Fields and these amazing products they care so much about protecting your skin from the Sun & sun damage… I truly love my skin with Rodan + Fields amazing products my skin feels like silk & has never looked better…..

In 1985 I was in the Navy stationed in Jacksonville, FL and was participating in a weekend team building exercise. We were in and out of the water and doing other youthful adult fun stuff as rescue swimmers which was stupid to others! and though I am a user of sunscreen, it was not cool for dudes to put lotion on your back. With that, a large area on my back was not protected and my believing I was keeping it shaded and avoiding the sun, the burn was blistering. For reason, I could not report to medical for relief and I found my sunburn friend Nyquil allowing me to obtain the needed rest to be ready. Nyquil is my idea for sunburn relief!

I should have known better! I was in my 30s and in Colorado. I loved my garden and would go out to work in it for hours. One beautiful cool day, though my husband warned me, I went out to work in my garden without sunscreen or a hat. Oh my…..I burned so badly that I still have white spots where the natural skin color was removed and I’m in my 60s! Fortunately, Reverse has worked very well to get rid of the brown spots which surfaced 10 years later!

I think the worst sunburns I have ever had in my life were the ones I got when I was using a tanning booth regularly..:( Not a good idea! I was trying for that all over tan back then, of course, so the areas that had never seen the light of day (or sun) got pretty crisp, to say the least. I remember that it was the most painful sunburn I have ever had. I felt like I was fried, literally and could not even wear any clothing for awhile! And it took forever to heal. I am sure I have permanent skin damage from those experiences, because I have alot of spots on my skin now. I make it a habit now to wear sunscreen when I am out in the sun.
I lived in Hawaii for 10 years, too, and found that the sun there is very brutal. I got so tired of it, that I found myself hopping from one patch of shade to the next after awhile..:)

When I was in high school, I was being rushed by the social clubs and I had been invited to 2nd parity by the club I was very interested in so of course I wanted to look my best! Layed out in the sun all day and that night was the “BIG” spend-the-night party! Well I was completely sunburned front and back! Never been so miserably in all my life! I stood up the whole night and never went to bed because I was so sunburned, I couldn’t sit down if I wanted to. So this was my worst sunburn ever!

Not sure if it was the worst sunburn I have ever had, but as a little kid spending the whole day at the community pool to come home with blisters on my shoulders. But of course my mom had a remedy, vinegar on a hankerchief. Talking about a lasting memory. I can smell it now…

Me and my husband, who was then my boyfriend, went to Key West with a group of friends for Spring Break. We sat out on the beach all day, went kayaking and had a fantastic time. We went back to the house we were staying at and he said he was taking me out for a romantic night-just the two of us. I went to get ready and realized how badly burned I was. I was cooked. I tried to defuse the redness with aloe but I had already started to bubble. I was hoping for the “healthy glow” look but it was neon lobster. We went out to dinner, he proposed and I spent that night and three days after begging him not to touch me. NOT VERY ROMANTIC. I think he regretted asking me because I was such a pain in the neck and miserable for the rest of the trip! We’ll be celebrating our 15th anniversary this July at the beach, and we’ll be wearing my R+F SPF!!!

I have always lived in New Mexico and am Hispanic and fairly dark skinned, so I have never had a sunburn and have never used sunscreen. So when we went to Hawaii for my daughters wedding, I never even thought to purchase sunscreen. The day before the wedding, both my daughters and I thought we would just have a nice relaxing day at the beach, and 7 hours later when we walked into our hotel we all were burnt red! Needless to say, none of us could sleep that night because of our burns on about 90% of our bodies and the wedding pictures had a very rose color glow from our sunburns. So now when I read the “blogs” from Rodan and Fields about sun protection, even with dark skin, I totally believe them to always protect our precious skin!

My story of a bad sunburn is about a friend in highschool several years ago. She was very, very fair but decided she could get a tan using nothing but baby oil. Not only did she have major burns all over her body, she was so ill that it was 2 weeks before she could walk and sit well enough to return to school. When she did return, her skin looked blue and she still didn’t feel well. It was horrible!!

I grew up northern Canada, and I remember coming down to the states to visit family. To my surprise, after being here for just one day, I got a sunburn on every exposed skin area and my aunt used the juice of aloe leaf to soothe my sunburn. Since that day, I have been diligent to use sunscreen on a daily basis and my skin has been spared any more sunburns. Since using the R&F products now for three years I have been free of any sunburns and testify about them daily.

My grandparents lived on an island in New Jersey, and I spent my first 15 summers there. Those were the days of sun tan oil, not sunscreen. I remember when I was 12 spending a day sitting on the beach from 9 am till 6 pm. It was overcast, and I was under the misconception that I wouldn’t get burned. Of course I got burned. I remember being so uncomfortable that night that it hurt for the sheets to touch my body.

I spent most of our warm days outside because I played golf competitively. I was careful to always wear sunscreen but with Irish in my blood I was more susceptible to burns. Unfortunately I have burned so bad that my nose forms fever blisters in the hot sun. My worst nightmare! I now do not care about how tan I am, but more about how healthy I am. Nicole Kidman can pull off the fair skin, so I think I can, too! Our R+F sunscreen is honestly the best sunscreen I’ve ever tried. I have never burned with it. Such a blessing! I don’t go ANYWHERE without my R+F SPF

When I was in college, my suite mates used to lay out on the roof of our dorm. They would rub themselves with butter flavored Crisco, cheaper than suntan oil and delivered about the same results. Not sure why I decided to try it, but I ended up smelling like burnt popcorn. Let’s just say that my fair skin and green eyes didn’t tolerate this method. The result… I had to visit the campus clinic where they gave me a topical spray for the pain and some steroids for the burn that developed. Wish I’d known then what I know now! If I’d been a little smarter in the sun, I would probably have nice even skin without all the freckles and moles now.

My story is about a friend in high school many years ago. She was very fair but thought she’d get a great tan by applying baby oil and then soaking up the sun. Not only was she extemely burned, she was very sick. Two weeks later when she was able to walk and sit, she returned to school and actually looked purple….and still very ill. I lost track of her but often wonder if that had an adverse effect on her over the years.

My first date with my future husband (at the time a sailor on leave)included a 5 hour whale watch out of Gloucester MA, folllowed
by a 5 hour day at Singing Beach in Manchester by the Sea. After 10 plus hours in the sun my lips and body were peeling for days. What I didn’t know was that my lips were so burned that I have spent the past 26 years using Chapstick on the hourly basis. Luckily for me the Doctors developed their Anti–aging lip serum. Within one hour of application they were transformed. No more hourly applications! Thx Docs.

My worst sunburn was about four years ago. I was pregnant and spent the fourth of July sitting in the shade. It had never occurred to me that even in the shade I needed to apply sunscreen. After about four hours after getting home I started to feel miserable. I figured it was a really warm day and five months into the pregnancy, it happens. I woke up in the very early hours to find my entire face red and rash like. I had an allergic reaction to the burn. It took several weeks to heal but I now get a rash on my face every time I sweat or go out in the sun for more than 30 minutes. I wear sunscreen now but I have such regrets because it aged my skin so much. I do not look like I am 32, I look in my mid forties and all because of a sunburn.

I looked like I had measles twice when I sailed the Virgin Islands. Did not learn the first time, also developed sun posioning the second time. Never under estimate the power of the SUN SHINE. I realized how horrible I looked after looking into the full length mirror on the sail boat. Just the most horrible red red red sunburn I have ever experienced. Measels for sure. Ever since then I could never wear sunscreen until I discovered Rodan+Fields. Rodan+Fields suncreen agrees with my skin and I am finally able to have protection from the Sun. THANK YOU RODAN+FIELDS! So glad I discovered you.

Hi, my name is Karen Dugger and I got a sunburn just last month in North Carolina. I was introduced to Rodan &Fields when my face was on fire after appling my Mary kay moisturizer and Hawaiian Tropic after sun moisturizer. I had tried the products but was looking at joining the company after reviewing the comp plan. When I applied Soothe to my sunburn face it was sooo refreshing and immediately stopped the burn. I said sign me up, this is amazing. Thank you Clarice and Barbara for sharing these products and the business opportunity.

While pregnant, I went on a family vacation 4 years ago to Playa del Carmen, MX. I scorched my arms and chest so badly, I went and bought a long sleeved shirt to cover up for the rest of the week. The next day, WEARING SUNSCREEN and staying in the shade (or so I thought) I SCORCHED my legs! That night my husband couldn’t help but giggle and said it looked like I was wearing red tights it was so bad. The rest of the vacation I was completely miserable because I couldn’t even sleep from the pain of my skin being burnt. A hard lesson to learn about REAPPLYING sunscreen every hour and wearing protective clothing, not just after you get fried.

Enjoyed an afternoon with my family watching the amazing Blue Angels perform their daring stunts. We happened to be out on some bleachers close to the run way. I had a sleeveless dress on and my shoulders were burned to a crisp, even though most of the day was overcast. The following day both shoulders were one big blister! Ouch!

On an overcast day in south Louisiana, I sustained the most “memorable” sunburn in my life! It was early spring before the steamy summer had driven me indoors. An hour-long nap break from my college studies resulted in a scorching burn to my back side. “I fell asleep in the sun and feel like a French fry!” remember the Solarcaine commercial?? But here’s the kicker–while sitting in class the next day, I had forgotten about the burn until I stood up to leave class. The skin on the back of my legs stuck to the chair– Felt like I had been skinned!! Since that time, I’ve cautioned others to watch for sun exposure on deceptively cloudy days!!!

Living at the beach required that I always maintain a savage tan so before each season, I frequented the tanning bed in order to get a “base tan” before hitting the beach. One year in particular I decided to try the stand up booth since it provided a “deeper, darker tan”. What a mistake! That evening, I lathered aloe all over my perfectly purple body…especially my chest. My “base tan ” lasted a couple weeks but the permanent redness lasted much, much longer. That’s when I learned the dangers of quick tans and the value of a faux tan. To this day I’m an avid self tanner and with the R+F tanner, I’m looking perfectly savage all season!!!

My worst experience with a sunburn was in my teen years. Being a native Floridian, I did everything from baby oil with tin foil and lemon juice in my hair. Can’t tell you how ‘crispy’ my hair was from the lemon juice. Anyway, I fell asleep on more than one occasion at the beach for HOURS. I absolutely Fried my cheat to where it bubbles up with blisters! I had sun poisoning that itched and itched…. Worst sunburn….ever!!

As a teenager, I was a fair-skinned girl (red-head genes) and all my friends liked to lay out and tan. I wanted to follow suit but I laid out too long on my back and my stomach turned a BRIGHT red. Well, needless to say, my skin peeled off in a huge sheet on my belly, but what did I do? Sprayed on some sort of ‘healing balm’ that stung like all get out! I was hopping around like a person with their feet on fire, only it was my belly! YOWZERS! After that, I never tried to tan again! Lesson learned very young, thankfully! But OUCH. SPF everytime I’m out and now as an adult, I use a rash guard when I go tubing or am out on the water in the middle of the day to keep it covered!

Senior trip, 1993. Spent a few days on the Gulf Coast. I wore a bikini top and cutoff bluejean shorts. I was so burned, I had to continue to wear the bikini top as a bra for a week. Never been so miserable in my life.

When I was in college, I spent 12 hours (all day) out in the sun for an outdoor concert. Having a darker skin tone, I didn’t think I would burn at all and didn’t use ANY sunscreen. Boy, was I wrong? The worst lesson I ever learned. I definitely didn’t burn like most would, but I was pretty much a red lobster with molting skin for the next 2 weeks. OUCH!!

My worst sun burn happened when I was a teenager. My friend and I would lay on foil emergency blankets, put a sprinkler at our feet to our necks , wear string bikini’s and bathe in baby oil. I took full advantage of the sunshine. The burn I got was blistering/bubbling and it sits as a reminder right at my cleveage. I don’t know why we were so stupid and she is still my friend!
